Initiated during the final stages of the First World War, The Russian Revolution in 1917 brought about an end to the rule of the then Czar Nicholas II.Seizing control of the nation’s capital Petrograd, the Bolshevik Party led by the charismatic and notorious Vladimir Lenin, sought to rectify the poverty and hardship of the Russian peasants who lived in the country. Lenin’s rule of Soviet Russia lasted 7 years, with a significant milestone in his career being his success in transitioning Russia to a one-party socialist state. Narrowly escaping an assassination attempt in 1918, the iconic leader never recovered and eventually died in 1924. In commemoration of his considerable political influence, the State Bank of the USSR issued this Commemorative Coin with the value of 50 Kopeks and is a genuine uncirculated release from 1967.Depicted on the reverse of this commemorative is the engraving of Lenin pointing an uplifting arm to the promising future of Russia – it just so happens that the positioning of his arm correlates with the 11 o’clock position, representing the exact time Alcohol could be bought in Soviet Russia.As such, Soviet Russians decided that Lenin’s overarching message was to notify Soviets that they could begin drinking!This unique commemorative is extremely rare and is a must have for any historical artefact’s collector!
