Featured on the national flag, the maple leaf has been a national symbol since the 1800’s, and is deeply rooted in Canadian history. For many, the crest represents the pride and ambition of Canadian people but is also a huge commercial asset for the indigenous inhabitants living in the eastern parts of Canada – maple trees and in particular their sap serves as an important food source.
In recognition of this domestic symbol, The Royal Canadian Mint has released a stunning six-part collection, with this Maple Leaves coin the second in the series.
The reverse of this 1/2oz Pure Silver coin features a beautifully designed Sugar Maple branch with five leaves.
The obverse of each coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II created by Susanna Blunt.
Also featured in this collection are designs centered on iconic themes including Polar Bear, Canadian Parliament, Changing of the Guard, The Beaver, and The Great Outdoors.
