This official 2026 UK £5 coin celebrates the fourth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, originally designed by acclaimed sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. Part of The Royal Mint’s Portraits of a Queen collection, the reverse features a remastered version of Rank-Broadley’s effigy, carefully reworked by Gordon Summers, The Royal Mint’s Chief Engraver.
Introduced in 1998, the fourth effigy marked a shift towards a more realistic portrayal of the monarch and was inspired by Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic 1817 portrait of King George III. The design became one of the most recognisable images of Queen Elizabeth II during her record-breaking reign and appeared on UK coinage for nearly two decades.
The obverse of the coin bears the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, uniting mother and son. Struck to a Brilliant Uncirculated standard, this 2026 £5 coin forms part of a wider range available, with this issue offering collectors an accessible way to own a piece of modern numismatic history.
