The initial bombing raids on Normandy began around midnight, with over 2,000 bombers from Britain, Canada and the United States, as well as pilots from allied and occupied nations who came to fight for a free world. Bomber flights were launched throughout the day to destroy German fortifications and support the advancing ground forces. At Omaha beach, however, cloud cover and fears of hitting friendly forces meant that most raids didn’t hit their targets. Produced in remembrance of the incredible sacrifices made by so many during the landings, the 4,450 Bombers commemorative is part of the D-Day 75th Anniversary Collection and features an image of a Lancaster Bomber with the combined flags of the Allied Forces below.
