Every professional footballer dreams of winning the most prestigious trophy in World Football, the FIFA World Cup. Originally introduced in 1930 as ‘The Jules Rimet Trophy’ – a name derived from the Frenchman who formulated the idea for the tournament, the iconic FIFA World Cup is a global championship in which every four years, 32 national teams compete for the precious gold trophy.
Hosting the tournament this year, and the first Arab world nation to do so is Qatar, with the 2022 games being played during the winter months. Having debuted in Uruguay in 1930, there have been 21 world cups since its initiation with only eight winners of the tournament – the nation of Brazil holds the most success in the competition with five titles.
Each nation that hosts this distinguished competition is tasked with coming up with a unique emblem, and the nation of Qatar has not disappointed with its design this year. Inspired by the shape of shawls worn by inhabitants in the gulf region during winter, the figure-of-eight-shaped white band embodies the vision of the nation to connect and engage the world.
In celebration of this year’s competition and the efforts of the host country Qatar in building a brand for the world cup that unites the world, we are extremely proud to announce the release of this Official Precious Gold Emblem Coin.
Depicted on the reverse of this release is the Official Emblem for this year’s tournament, with its face value of $10 showcased above.
Pictured on the obverse is an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
