Charles was homeschooled for the first few years of his education before he joined Hill House School in London, where he studied from the age of 8 to 13.
After completing his studies at Hill House, Charles was then enrolled at the Cheam Preparatory School in Berkshire before attending the same school as his father Prince Philip did, Gordonstoun School in Morayshire, Scotland which included spending 6 months in Australia studying at Geelong Grammar School in Victoria in 1966.
After his time in Australia, Charles returned to Gordonstoun, where he completed his secondary education. During his time at Gordonstoun, Charles participated in various extracurricular activities, including acting in school plays and playing in the school's football team. He was also a member of the school's mountaineering club and enjoyed outdoor activities such as hiking and camping.
Charles has spoken positively about his experiences at Gordonstoun, saying that it instilled in him a sense of independence, resilience, and self-reliance.
