As the Queen with the longest reign in history and the head of state of most countries simultaneously, the portraits of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) are among the most famous depictions ever featured on coins.
This is the first British coin set without the abbreviation “BRITT OMN” (Britanniarum Omnium, in English: [king] of all Britons) in the traditional circumscription and, moreover, the last set before the decimalisation of the Pound Sterling.
All obverses feature the first portrait of the Queen. The reverses show Sir Francis Drake’s sailing ship “Golden Hind”, the national symbol Britannia, the portcullis of the Palace of Westminster, symbolic plants of the British constituent countries as well as the coats of arms of Elizabeth II and England.
The coins featured in this set of 7 are half, 1, 3, and 6 pence, 1 and 2 Shillings and half Crown and are dated between 1953 and 1970. They come mounted on a specially designed presentation card, perfect to add to your collection.
