Every professional footballer dreams of winning the most prestigious trophy in World Football, the FIFA World Cup. Originally introduced in 1930 as ‘The Jules Rimet Trophy’ – a name derived from the Frenchman who formulated the idea for the tournament, the iconic FIFA World Cup is a global championship in which every four years, 32 national teams compete for the precious gold trophy.
Hosting the tournament this year, and the first Arab world nation to do so is Qatar, with the 2022 games being played during the winter months. Having debuted in Uruguay in 1930, there have been 21 world cups since its initiation with only eight winners of the tournament – the nation of Brazil holds the most success in the competition with five titles.
Whilst originally the prize for this prestigious championship was ‘The Jules Rimet Trophy’, the competition has evolved since then with winners of the tournament now presented with a gold trophy depicting two human figures holding the earth on top of their heads – FIFA World Cup Trophy.
The prized official world cup trophy is displayed in stunning detail on the reverse of this commemorative, showcasing the splendour of the trophy in full colour. Also showcased on the reverse of this silver plated edition are symbols that correlate to this year’s world cup in Qatar.
Pictured on the obverse of this commemorative is the official emblem for this year’s world cup in Qatar.
