One of the defining moments in Canadian History, The Klondike Gold Rush of 1896 sparked a mass exodus of opportunistic migrants from their hometowns to the Canadian Yukon Territory and Alaska.
Following the discovery of Gold near the Klondike and Yukon Rivers, around 100,000 people embarked on the treacherous journey which involved crossing dangerous ice valleys and scaling rocky mountains. With roughly half of these opportunists dying from malnutrition, hypothermia and avalanches that fell along their route, the risks attached to this treacherous expedition were significant, but the rewards reaped by the few that arrived were substantial.
Even though the so-called ‘Gold Rush’ came to its culmination in 1899, the impact this period of history had on the external environment was remarkable – this event was credited with helping the United States climb out of its period of depression. Furthermore, its importance to Canadian History is also prevalent today with the population boom it initiated for the Yukon Territory, Alberta, British Columbia and Vancouver.
Celebrating this iconic period of history, The Koin Club is extremely excited to release this remarkable 1oz Silver 125th Anniversary of the Klondike Gold Rush $25 Coin, particularly special because of its unique concave shape, mirroring the design of a prospector's gold pan.
This .999 solid silver coin is accented with gold plating to highlight the precious gold nuggets that the prospectors were searching for and that would make some their fortune.
This legal tender release from The Royal Canadian Mint has the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse and comes housed in a premium black presentation box to beautifully display your coin.
