On the occasion of 12th March 1944, the Memorial Day, the 13 part stamp set “Day of the Wehrmacht” was issued.
The 13 semi-postal stamps with soldier motifs also included a surcharge which was added to the stamp price as a donation, alongside the usual posting price.
In contrast to earlier stamp editions, these stamps bore the official new country name “Grossdeutsches Reich”. This name already publicized in 1938, became the binding country name from June 1943.
