NASA's Crew Dragon Endeavour (named after the Space Shuttle Endeavour,) is a spacecraft designed and built by SpaceX to transport astronauts to and from the International Space Station (ISS). The spacecraft is part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, which aims to develop and operate a new generation of spacecraft for human spaceflight.
The Crew Dragon is capable of carrying up to seven astronauts and is equipped with advanced systems for navigation, life support, and communications. The spacecraft is launched into orbit on top of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket and can autonomously dock with the ISS.
The Crew Dragon Endeavour made its first crewed flight, called the Demo-2 mission, in May 2020, carrying NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley (who both flew on the original Endeavour) to the ISS.
The Crew Dragon represents a significant milestone in human spaceflight, as it is the first privately developed spacecraft to carry astronauts to the ISS and the first crewed spacecraft to be launched from American soil since the retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2011. It is a critical component of NASA's plans to develop a sustainable and robust commercial marketplace in low-Earth orbit, enabling a variety of new space activities and research opportunities.
